Effective communication in English (B1/B2)

The course aims to provide participants with opportunities to practise the language skills they need to critically analyse current events and express informed opinions through discussions, debates, and writing assignments. Participants will actively engage in and discuss various topics by analysing real-life situations to exercise their language skills and theoretical knowledge.

Module 1: Global Dynamics

Topics:

 

  • World Economy: Exploring everyday impacts of global trade. 
  • Navigating Global Politics: Insights into international power plays, the role of major organisations, and global cooperation and conflicts. 
  • Everyday Environmental Actions: Discussing climate change realities, sustainable living choices, and the power of individual and community actions. 
  • Technology in Our Lives: Examining the personal impacts of AI, privacy in the digital age, and ethical considerations in our connected world.

 

Module 2: Global Impact Essentials

Topics:

 

  • Health Matters in a Globalised World: Everyday implications of public health decisions, understanding pandemics, and navigating health information. 
  • Cultural Influences and Interactions: Exploring how global cultures influence our daily lives, the effects of media, and navigating cultural appreciation vs. appropriation. 
  • Making Sense of Economic Policies: Demystifying government economic decisions, taxes, and inflation, aimed at demystifying economic principles for the layperson. 

 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • interact effectively on contemporary issues using an expanded vocabulary and complex grammatical structures, 
  • engage in debate and discussion, present well-structured arguments and critically evaluate different points of view, 
  • apply their language skills in real-world contexts, interpret news, reports, and academic articles, and produce clear, persuasive, and well-informed written contributions on complex topics.
